To qualify as a Level 3 Commissioned Security Officer in Texas, certain requirements must be met:
21 years old or older
No Class A misdemeanors or convictions within the last 10 years
No Class B arrests or convictions within the last 5 years
No felonies within the last 20 years
Must be mentally competent
No history of substance abuse or addiction
Military personnel must be honorably discharged
Completion of the 45-hour course
Completion of the Texas Level II Course
Training subjects include firearms safety, proficiency, use of force, laws concerning commissioned officers, handcuffing, baton usage, and OC training (pepper spray).

The course lasts 4 to 6 hours and includes a shooting proficiency test. After passing, submit your application, including a background check, fingerprints, and fees, to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) for your License to Carry.
